Blackburn Rovers: Glorious legacy, winning identity - Badge History

Although football clubs did occasionally display badges on their shirts before the 1970's, it wasn't until the 1970's that it became common practice for football clubs to display club badges on their shirts all the time, prior to this, club badges usually appeared on Match Day Programmes and club stationary with town, city or borough crests usually adopted for one-off special occasions such as FA Cup Finals. 

1875 - 1878

A Maltese Cross was worn on the left breast between 1875 and 1888 on a white jersey, with a blue and white skull cap, brown shorts or optional trousers.

1928 and 1960 FA Cup Finals

For the 1928 and 1960 FA Cup Final the town crest was added to the shirt.

1974 - 1989

The Lancashire Rose also known as The Red Rose of the House of Lancaster was adopted between 1974 and 1989 with the clubs initials underneath.

1989 - present

Was this badge ever used? According to this 1957 cigarette card it was. I have never seen it on any photo's. Help needed.
